Editing and proofreading
First impressions count. It doesn't matter whether it's your website, your pamphlets or your book... You can end up looking unprofessional if your published material is riddled with errors or uses a poor standard of English. Click Pen Media's editing services will ensure that your current and future clients recognise you as the professional you are. We can edit:
Why do I need an editor? Can't I just use the spell check?
While spell checkers are handy for minor errors, they are no match for a professional editor. For example, the spell check can't tell if a word has been spelt correctly but used incorrectly.
Furthermore, editing involves much more than fixing spelling and grammar. It is often impossible to see how your own work can be improved without outside help. That's because it's only natural to be attached to what you've written or produced.
This is where we come in. We will look at your document or manuscript as a whole and make sure it works as well as it should. Does it all make sense? Does it flow in a logical sequence? Is the pacing right? Is the voice or tone appropriate for your target audience? Are the themes or ideas properly developed?
Once these problems have been addressed, we will focus in on the details. We will check for accuracy, consistency of style and correct use of language, ensuring all mistakes are fixed.
What's the difference between editing and proofreading?
Proofreading occurs after editing. It’s the final check to make sure there are absolutely no errors left in the document. Click Pen Media will proofread any work our clients give us to edit or write.
How will you edit my document?
We prefer to work with soft copy, utilising the Track Changes feature in Word. We have found this saves time and money for all parties. However, we are able to mark up hard copy using standard proofreading marks if required.
As an Australian business, we default to Style manual as our reference. However, we are happy to use your house style if you have one, or use spelling variants (e.g. American English if you are targeting a US audience).
